About the craftswoman
Valentina Vladimirovna is a hereditary craftswoman who has known the Orenburg down shawl from an early age. Already in first grade she could knit a border with 15 points. Ever since she picked up knitting needles, she could not imagine her life without knitting.
Shawls that fed the family
Valentina Vladimirovna graduated from a sewing technical college, and her studies further honed her professional skills. She worked as a freelance knitter for the down-knitting cooperative and sold shawls of her own making.
Hard work and enthusiasm allowed the craftswoman to knit up to 4 shawls a week. Her down shawls were valued for their quality and always brought the family a high and stable income — more than her monthly salary on the railway, where she had worked since the age of 18.
“I've been knitting for as long as I can remember,” says Valentina Vladimirovna.
Large warm shawls
Now Valentina Vladimirovna works in our down workshop and still does a huge amount of work, knitting large warm shawls and down shawls. We are glad that such a responsible and professional master works with us, and we are pleased to present to you the high-quality items made by her hands.

Part of a living tradition
The Orenburg down shawl survives thanks to craftswomen who pass on their skills through family, neighbours and personal experience. Each item is linked not only to its pattern but also to the hand of the person who made it.
