Orenburg Down Shawl Days in Orenburg
The "Return to the Origins" exhibition, postage stamps, an attempt at a world down-knitting record and the "Intercession Day in an Orenburg Shawl" event – the festival programme.
Our shawl rightly deserves to have such celebrations held in its homeland. The world-famous Orenburg down shawl has been warming fragile female shoulders for more than 200 years!
12 October: an exhibition and postage stamps
As part of the celebration, the exhibition "Return to the Origins" will be held: it will show shawls of different generations, old and new techniques for making them, and exclusive works of down art. The opening is on 12 October at 16:00 at the Orenburg Down Shawl Gallery. On the same day at 15:00, the Orenburg Museum of Fine Arts will launch a festive series of postage stamps with an image of the Orenburg down shawl.
13 October: a world down-knitting record
On 13 October, more than 600 Orenburg down knitters aged from 6 to 80 will attempt to set a world down-knitting record for the number of participants. The result will be sent to the Guinness World Records for registration. The event will take place in the halls of the Orenburg Regional Philharmonic, starting at 12:00.
14 October: "Intercession Day in an Orenburg Shawl"
On 14 October, the Feast of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, the event "Intercession Day in an Orenburg Shawl" will be held throughout the Orenburg region. Our down shawl shop is doing its bit to help organise it. On this day, women will show off in down items as a sign of respect for the down craft of their native region, and men will give down shawls to their loved ones.
