In Sol-Iletsk, shawls by the best craftswomen of the village of Chorny Otrog from the mid-20th to the early 21st century are on show at the V. S. Chernomyrdin museum.
From 22 to 24 July 2014, it will be incredibly warm and beautiful in Sol-Iletsk (Orenburg Region). The weather has nothing to do with it – it is not being kind to us at all these days. It is all about the exhibition of Orenburg down shawls "I Will Knit You a Life…".

Shawls by the craftswomen of Chorny Otrog
The exhibition presents works by the best craftswomen of the village of Chorny Otrog from the mid-20th to the early 21st century, including shawls by N. A. Shchukina, M. S. Chernomyrdina, R. P. Zayatseva, F. A. Levadnyaya, S. G. Makaeva, S. I. Nasaeva and others.
The exhibition is housed in the Viktor Stepanovich Chernomyrdin Historical and Memorial Museum. It is organised as part of a winning project of the 1st All-Russian contest of projects "Cultural Mosaic of Small Towns and Villages", held by the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and under the operational management of the Association of Culture Managers (AMK).
Why this museum
The venue was not chosen by chance. One of the areas of work of the V. S. Chernomyrdin Historical and Memorial Museum is the revival and development of down knitting, a traditional Cossack craft, in the village of Chorny Otrog. It is one of the oldest centres for making the world-famous Orenburg shawls and the birthplace of Viktor Stepanovich Chernomyrdin, Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation in 1992–1998.
On the first day of the exhibition, down-knitting master classes were held for everyone interested.
The exhibition will run until 24 August 2014.
