What Is a Poncho?
A poncho is a versatile item of outerwear and a fashionable accessory that is winning more and more fans in our country. Today it is worn at any time of year, combined with a variety of clothes.
In terms of function, a poncho can replace a coat, dress, cape, jacket and scarf – to a large extent this depends on the density and the material it is sewn or knitted from.
The variety of modern models makes it possible to use a poncho to create a classic, evening, everyday or romantic look. One way or another, an outfit complemented by this striking item will look original and stylish.
Interesting facts from the history of the poncho
The traditional poncho came to us from South America (from Indian tribes), where it was common as outerwear. The Indian prototype looked very simple – a wide woollen rectangle with a round opening for the head. Such clothing was worn everywhere, by both men and women. The fabric of the poncho was decorated with colourful ornaments and bright colours characteristic of each of the continents. Their modernised models have kept only two original features – the absence of sleeves and the opening for the head.
Modern poncho models

Thin, weightless, openwork – all this characterises summer ponchos. They are worn over tops, light dresses and even T-shirts. Openwork ponchos are used more for decorative purposes. In the latest 2015 collections they are even presented as a beach accessory that perfectly replaces the usual pareo.
The most common winter option is a luxurious fur poncho. These are often cropped models that are ideal with an evening outfit.
In spring and autumn, ponchos are relevant as an alternative to a coat. Today they are sewn from plain dense fabrics that imitate cashmere in appearance, or knitted in a double stitch. Mid-season models are often complemented with hoods, scarves in contrasting colours and knitted collars, and decorated with fringe.
Orenburg craftswomen, who have perfectly mastered openwork knitting and know many unique patterns, have not ignored ponchos either. Today in our city you can already find Orenburg down ponchos, which combine national traditions and fashion trends.
Ponchos for curvy ladies – extra advantages

No woman can resist the desire to put together a fashionable and stylish wardrobe. And for ladies with curvy figures, the priority is to hide figure imperfections while looking as attractive as possible. Both tasks are solved by buying a knitted poncho – a unique and practical garment that can successfully complement any outfit. Women with appetising curves value the poncho for its elegant look and exceptional comfort. Its special cut lets you feel light, free and confident; it does not restrict movement and successfully masks problem areas of the figure.
A down poncho is also suitable for women "in an interesting condition", who throughout pregnancy feel a special need for warmth and cosiness. Throwing it over everyday clothes, you can forget for a while about the general interest and heightened attention that often tires pregnant beauties.
