About the craft
What Is a Cape (Pelerine)
A pelerine (from the French "pèlerine") is an elegant item of women's clothing in the form of a rounded cape worn over a dress, blouse or outerwear. Such shoulder capes barely reach the waist and combine two functions at once – they add a touch of coquetry to a look and keep you warm. The second meaning of this "fashion term" is a large round collar. It can be knitted, lace or even fur.

Interesting facts from history
Capes became widespread in the Renaissance, largely thanks to the absence of strict rules in clothing and the all-round development of culture. The trendsetter was a French actress who in 1841 appeared on the stage of a Paris theatre in a charming ermine cape. Rumour has it that after this performance most of the women in the audience went to their seamstresses with an insistent request to make something similar.
Down capes – a combination of French form and Russian traditions
Down knitting is an age-old Russian craft whose traditions are still kept in various corners of our country. Needless to say, this is true of Orenburg, whose skilled craftswomen made their region famous with unusually exquisite down items. Down-knitting traditions are also reflected in modern forms. In addition to traditional Orenburg shawls, warm shawls and kerchiefs, the city of famous down knitters is actively mastering new types of products – stoles, ponchos, boleros and openwork capes.
Hand-knitted down capes look superb. Weightless, delicate, openwork – they can complement even a wedding outfit. Such an exclusive cape will make a look perfect, adding elegance and charm to its owner.

Is there room in your wardrobe for a cape?
Almost weightless goat-down capes fit easily into a handbag and will serve you well in cool weather. A cape of natural down will envelop you in warmth and give you extraordinary comfort.
Exquisite patterns and the unique properties of the yarn can turn an ordinary cape into an extravagant accessory that complements the most fashionable look. A light gossamer cape covering the shoulders will draw attention to you and become a coveted item in the wardrobes of the most sophisticated fashionistas.
Capes have also appeared on fashion catwalks – renowned designers willingly use them in autumn-winter collections, preferring densely knitted models, the very sight of which is associated with pleasant cosiness and warmth.
