How to Store a Down Shawl in Summer
It is summer outside, and our favourite down shawls are patiently waiting for their season to give us warmth and care for our health. This means it is time to take care of them by organising proper care and storage.
How to care for a natural down shawl?
After winter use, down shawls are washed and thoroughly dried and then put away for storage until the next cold season. Ordinary shawls and scarves can be folded and put away in a wardrobe. But soft down items do not tolerate loads, even slight ones. These items must "breathe" even during storage.

You can give down items a "comfortable rest" in the warm season as follows. Fold the shawls in two or three, then carefully roll them into a loose roll. The resulting roll is wrapped in cotton fabric.
Remember: the bundle with the precious down item should always lie on top of the other things on the wardrobe shelf. Putting other items on it is strongly discouraged!
It is useful to take the shawl out of the wardrobe from time to time and shake it. This fills the hairs with air; the shawl "breathes", straightens its fibres and restores their proper position. A hot sunny day is considered the best time for such "air treatments".

It is no secret that natural down may attract insects. Moths will not refuse to settle in a warm, cosy spot to breed. Dry herbs will help scare off these barely visible pests. For example, moths dislike the smell of wormwood, marsh tea, mint or lavender. Dried orange peel is often used to protect things from insects. The herbs are put in a small bag, which is placed in the folds of the shawl. But you definitely should not spray the down with chemicals. Any chemical products can damage the natural raw material.
