Washing a Down Item
It is advisable to wash a down item no more than once a year, and that is if it is worn constantly. If you wear it only on occasion, even less often. Washing: immerse the item in warm water, no more than 40 degrees, and wash it with any hair shampoo. Wash, rinse, and add hair conditioner in the last rinse. That is if the item is white. If the item is coloured (factory items come in non-natural colours), they do not like conditioner. They should be washed only with shampoo, without conditioner. Conditioner makes the down of white items soft, while the down of dark and coloured items seems to tangle. Down items must not be washed or dried in a washing machine – this makes them lose their shape and shrink. Attention — only gentle hand washing.
