7 July – the Feast of Ivan Kupala
On the night of 7 July, Ivan Kupala is celebrated – one of the oldest Slavic holidays, with wreaths, round dances and bonfires.
On the night of 7 July, Ivan Kupala is traditionally celebrated – one of the oldest Slavic ritual holidays, combining Christian and pagan customs. Since ancient times it has been timed to the "height of summer" and is associated with fire, fertility and universal forgiveness. In time, the holiday coincided with the Christian Nativity of John the Baptist.
Customs of Kupala night
The Eastern Slavs have long woven wreaths, danced in rings and lit bonfires. Lovers jumped over the fire, and if they kept hold of each other's hands, they became a couple. On this day it was customary to forgive old grievances, and if a grievance remained, the dispute was settled in public. The holiday with its rituals began the evening before and continued all night.
The tradition of celebrating Ivan Kupala has come down to us from ancient times. We congratulate you on one of the oldest holidays and wish you happiness and love, and that you hold no grudges against your loved ones!
