World Exhibitions of the Orenburg Down Shawl
It is common knowledge that today the Orenburg down shawl is not only a fully-fledged brand but also a true cultural, historical and craft treasure both of our region and of Russia as a whole. And, like any recognised item of national heritage, Orenburg down shawls have repeatedly represented our country on the world stage.
In this review we suggest recalling landmark events at which items of the Orenburg down-knitting craft were presented.
Nepal
On 24 November 2015, Orenburg down shawls were presented at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Nepal.
A source told the agency that the exhibition would introduce citizens of Nepal to the works of the best craftswomen of the Orenburg down-knitting craft. This collection presented about 30 different items, from warm shawls to delicate stoles.
United Kingdom
The Orenburg down shawl has been a "guest" at many London exhibitions and shows practically from the moment the craft began to reach the world level. Orenburg down items were first talked about in this country as early as 1851.
France
Just as in the previous case, a frequent "host" for items from the Orenburg region since the 19th century. Numerous exhibitions, fashion shows and high marks from expert commissions and fashion figures of different eras speak for themselves. The latest landmark event was Paris Fashion Week 2017, when down shawls were in effect blended with familiar items of a fashionable wardrobe in one of V. Yudashkin's collections.
Germany
In 2011, the exhibition "The Orenburg Down Shawl" opened at the Russian House of Science and Culture. The event, by the way, was prepared by the staff of the Orenburg Regional Museum of Fine Arts. The very idea of holding the exhibition was proposed by the head of the RHSC, M. Vladimir.
Belarus
The exhibition took place at the National Historical Museum of Belarus. Both classic and newfangled items were presented there. Special attention was paid to Orenburg down shawls with Olympic symbols.
In addition, at various times Orenburg down shawls have been presented at exhibitions in Denmark, Spain, Norway, Croatia, the USA and many other countries.
