About the craft
The “Platoshnitsy” Production Association at Shalnoy Orenburg
Despite all the accompanying difficulties, our company continues to pursue the comprehensive development of the down-knitting craft and the revival of the Orenburg down shawl in the original form it had at the peak of its prosperity. By bringing professional, talented craftswomen together into a single conglomerate, we have already created our own powerful production that unites knitters and spinners of various specialisations. In one of the strongest centres of down knitting, the Saraktash District, Shalnoy Orenburg actively cooperates with local media and educational and cultural institutions; in this way more and more people learn about us, and the number of those wishing to cooperate grows every day.
Striving to improve team cohesion and raise the quality and productivity of work, we have held many events for our production staff. Active assistance in this was provided by the Saraktash District Centre of Leisure and Culture, with which Shalnoy Orenburg has been working closely recently. And since both ceremonial and official meetings had a positive effect on the atmosphere in the team, the next logical step was to create a permanent production association within the company.

The new official association within our company was named “Platoshnitsy” (shawl knitters). The purpose of its creation is to improve the working atmosphere among production staff and to improve the quality and productivity of our knitters' work. At the association's meetings experience is and will be exchanged, topical issues discussed and potential problems promptly solved.

At various “Platoshnitsy” meetings, knitters will be able to talk in detail with spinners for better mutual understanding and better teamwork, and young craftswomen will be able to learn skills from more experienced ones (the age range at the first meetings is considerable; the youngest craftswoman is only 34).
The venue for our company's meetings was provided by the Saraktash District House of Culture, and we would like to thank its management separately; they too are interested in reviving Orenburg down knitting.
On 30 January the first “Platoshnitsy” meeting took place. The question of the day: maintaining a high level of quality in the production of Orenburg warm shawls. The meeting was attended by “leading workers”, mainly specialising in warm and dense down shawls and warm shawls.

Despite the official tone of the meeting, the craftswomen enjoyed discussing the question, proposals were made, and many continued the discussion even after the official part of the meeting was over. Shalnoy Orenburg's correspondents also managed to talk with Yulia Vilnusovna, who is currently the company's youngest knitter.
In conclusion, we would like once again to thank the Saraktash Centre of Leisure and Culture for its help with the organisation and to say that “Platoshnitsy” meetings will now be held on a regular basis. We believe that such measures will bring the team even closer together and have a positive effect on the quality and productivity of work, so that we can delight our customers with genuine Orenburg shawls even more often.
