The Orenburg Down Shawl Conquered Oymyakon
A Shalnoy Orenburg customer took a down shawl to the "Pole of Cold" festival in Oymyakon – and it withstood the Yakut frosts.
Meet Oymyakon, the so-called "Pole of Cold". This settlement in Yakutia is officially considered the coldest place in Russia. The lowest temperature recorded here is −77.8 degrees (1938), and usual thermometer readings are around −65 degrees. Daylight in December lasts no more than 3 hours, and night temperatures are simply off the scale.
The harshest "crash test"
You will agree, it is simply impossible to devise a more serious test for Orenburg down shawls, famous for their warmth since time immemorial. And recently we managed to carry it out!
Every year this amazing place hosts the "Pole of Cold" festival of the same name. A traveller contacted us who had decided to challenge the elements and prepare properly for the expedition – and at the same time put the legendary warmth of Orenburg shawls to the test.
The traveller's review
Here is her review after the trip, unchanged:
(Translated from Russian) "Thank you so much for your work! The best thing that could warm us in the harsh climate was your down shawl, the warmth of your hands and the down of the wonderful goats... Your items proudly withstood the severe frosts of the Pole of Cold in Oymyakon!!!! Hooray!!! Happy New Year – and, I hope, a successful one – to all of us!"
Now we can say with confidence and pride: our shawls have worthily passed the harshest test imaginable.
For atmosphere, the customer sent us several photos – we invite you to look at them too. Some of the pictures show the temperature on different days.
