This model is part of the collection of Orenburg kerchiefs. A kerchief is a triangular down shawl that is more convenient and compact than a square one: it does not need to be folded in half and immediately falls into a beautiful corner.
A kerchief can be worn in different ways. On the head it is tied with the ends at the back or under the chin, on the neck like a scarf covering the throat, on the shoulders with the corner on the back and the ends crossed on the chest. The triangular shape is convenient under the collar of a coat or jacket.
Orenburg goat down makes the kerchief soft and warm, and hand knitting makes it neat and durable. It is a good choice for the off-season, when a large shawl seems too much but the neck and shoulders need warmth.
Wash the kerchief by hand in cool water and dry it spread out. Confirm the size, colour and composition of the model with the consultants of the Shalnoy Orenburg store.
Why this item is special
Intricate openwork pattern
The ornament is knitted by hand and requires great precision in every row.
About two months of work
From preparing the down to the last stitch, the item goes through a long manual process.
Hand-knitted on needles
The shawl is knitted without machines — by the craftswoman's hands.
Living individuality
Pattern details and density may vary slightly — a natural sign of handwork.
Material and details
The item is made of unique goat down and a strong base thread — cotton or viscose silk, depending on the item. The base thread helps the shawl keep its shape, stay light and last longer.

Shawl care
To make your shawl last for years

1 · Washing
Hand wash in cool water with a mild wool detergent. Do not soak the shawl for long.

2 · Wringing
Gently press out the water with your palms. Do not twist, or the shawl will lose its shape.

3 · In a towel
Wrap the shawl in a dry towel and press gently to remove excess moisture.

4 · Drying
Dry flat, away from radiators and sunlight. Straighten the pattern by hand.
