A spinning wheel is a wooden device on which thread is spun by hand. It is driven by a foot pedal. A hand spinning wheel consists of two parts — horizontal (the base, where the spinner sits) and vertical (where the distaff is attached). The latter, in turn, is divided into the blade and the neck. Nowadays hand spinning wheels are being replaced by electric spinning wheels, which greatly simplify the production of down yarn at home. Electric spinning wheels, which have kept the simple design of hand ones, are durable and indispensable for large volumes of work.
