The Shawl Holiday
In Orenburg, on Orenburg Down Shawl Day, students and schoolchildren held a flash mob with white shawls on the bridge between Europe and Asia.
In the capital of the Orenburg region, an unusual flash mob was held as part of the "Orenburg Down Shawl Day" celebrations. Its participants were the city's students and schoolchildren. They lined up on the bridge connecting Europe and Asia with white down shawls and balloons in their hands – symbols of warmth, purity and tenderness. According to the organisers, the flash mob is meant to keep the young people of the Orenburg region from forgetting the down-knitting traditions of their region.
After the flash mob, the participants carried the largest Orenburg shawl, which is kept at the Orenburg Down Shawl gallery, along the city's central street. City residents joined the event with pleasure and warmth.
"I am a native of Orenburg and proud that my homeland is known all over the world for its down items. Today I put everything aside and came to support this event: firstly, because it is my duty as a true patriot of my home region, and secondly, my granddaughter Katya is taking part in today's flash mob," says pensioner Valentina Dmitrievna.
Every year, residents and guests of Orenburg take part in the Down Shawl Day celebrations with great pleasure and excitement.
